Reception: Early Coding – Playful Programming with Spheros

This session introduce your youngest learners to the magic of robotics through the colorful and durable Sphero robots. In this sensory-rich session, Reception pupils explore the basics of “control” using simple, child-friendly apps to drive their Spheros through obstacle courses. It is a fantastic way to develop fine motor skills and spatial awareness as children learn to coordinate their movements with the robot’s actions.

This workshop focuses on the concept of “cause and effect”—showing children that their physical actions on a screen can make something happen in the real world. By playing games and completing simple challenges, pupils build confidence with technology in a way that feels like play, providing a solid foundation for more structured programming as they move into Key Stage 1.

Resources: iPads, Blue Bots and Spheros
